Paul on the Church

In Paul's letter to the Ephesians he addresses a number of issues that are applicable to "all" churches. This particular letter was circular in that it was sent to all the churches in Asia Minor. In this letter we find Paul's understanding and purpose of the Church.

First, the Church is priority one from Christ's perspective. He writes "Jesus Christ is the head over all things for the church." Clearly the apostle is stating that Christ is preeminent over all things and that it is for the sake of the church. But what does he mean by the phrase "for the church?" It seems he is saying that Jesus exercises supreme global authority over all things in the interest/benefit of the church. That Christ's preeminent reign is directly linked with the future of the church.

What implications does this truth have for Christians/churches today? What does it look like on a day to day basis? What say you?

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. The “church”, small “c”, is what Christ was concerned about. He never cared for the organization of the “Church”, big “C”. Paul wrote, "Jesus Christ is the head over all things for the church." – small “c”. Jesus cared about the people, never the organization.

Churches, organizations, man made groups, corporate entities, clubs, societies, unions, or institutions. These were things He had no use for - more often than not He railed against. They are all man made, man serving, and in the end, for mans own edification and veneration. Regardless how benevolent the original motivation may be, somehow God always ends up taking a back seat.

So now you are going to say to me, “But what about the church we have built thus far, and all the wonderful things it has done, and all the people it has brought to God, etc., etc., etc.?

I don’t know what you’re going to do with it, and I don’t care. It may stand or it may fall. Either option is okay by me as long as it's okay with God.

All I do know is this is all about God and man, NOTHING ELSE. Just God and man, period.

I apologize if this offends anyone.
